for reducing stress!
Contradictory Tips?

of the tips for reducing stress are contradictory like #171 and #203,
but, you
know as well as I that each situation differs. Often, how to deal with
stress differs so greatly that the opposite action is needed from one
scenario to the next.
Use the one
that is comfortable for you.
Well that is just common
sense!
How
often do I over-look the simple things that make a total difference, in
how I am controlling stress? Too often! So, I have included those tips
for reducing stress too,
Find the stress reducing tip that is the right fit for you HERE, so
your life can be a living oasis of simple and lasting

Heeeeere weeeeeeeee goooooooooo!

personality strengths; the things you enjoy doing and you are already
successful in to start controlling stress. Find out more HERE about your strengths and how to
use them to succeed in controlling stress.
2.
Know your
weaknesses. This is a battle, kids, and your weakness will
be
targeted! Knowing your weaknesses allows you to identify where stresses
will hit the hardest. You can use this tip for reducing stress by
either avoiding those situations or to shore up your defenses.
3.

to tame your bad habits into profitable, high functioning
habits that aid in how are controlling stress. Got a bad
habit or two
that is the source of your stress? Do you have a habit of dealing with
certain stresses badly? HERE is where you find out how to
effectively change bad habits and reduce your long and short term
stress load.
4.
Do something
you are not
good at. When you conquer something your not good
at, you obtain confidence, persistence, creativity and a wealth of
other tools for dealing with stress. Pick something that you are not
good at and tackle it. Even if it's a small thing you are building new
ways for controlling stress.
5. Avoid blaming.
You could be
sighting in on the solution instead of hurting yourself and others
through blame. Blame is definitely not on of the good tips for reducing
stress! Blame
immobilizes its wielder by stealing their power of action.
6.
Compete with
yourself not others. When you compete with yourself you
constantly and consistently have something to strive for. When you set
goals that involve personal improvement and are based on your
individual priorities a lifetime of stresses instantly disappear. When
you are not keeping up with John and Georgina Jones you can focus on what you want and work
toward that instead of working toward what everyone else
thinks is important.
7.
Ask for help.
When you ask for help it is not
an admittance of failure
but a step that shows you are strong enough to defeat your pride. Not
only do you receive the benefits, but the giver also receive the gift
of giving. In fact, just telling people what your goals, hopes and what
is needed to accomplish them can be enough for someone to get excited
with you and give you a helping hand.
8. Decide to do it
differently. Once the decision is made, then, you can
begin to take
steps to support that decision. Until then the action you are making,
the decision you are making, is to be indecisive. Even this
small
decisions
will steady your mind under minor and major stress. How to
deal with stress well begins with a decision!
9.
Understand
your to do list. When you understand your to-do list, it
becomes a tool for controlling stress. Only you understand how much
time you have and what is important versus what is urgent. Your to do
list will become a stress reducing machine that works for you
instead of being your adversary.
10. Have a day motto.
Every day
have a guiding
principle to keep spirits high and your mind focused.
This is a very simple tip for reducing stress that will change how you
deal with stress with in hours.
11.Have a month motto.
12.Have a life motto.
13.
Ask: what
good thing will happen today? You are setting the groundwork
for a treasure hunt when you ask yourself this question.
Each event
that comes along you're wondering, “Is this my good thing?". This tip
for reducing stress couldn't be easier! What good thing will
happen to you today?".
14. State what good
thing will happen
today. As you state what good thing will happen you are beginning the
process for making it happen. Though it may or may not
happen exactly
how you expect or in the time frame you wish for. First, comes the
statement, and what follows is you- doing your best to create a
situation where it can happen.
15. Stress and anxiety
can be
an addiction- join a recovery group (“recovery spots”).
Addictions are
based on feelings. Have you ever seen a friend that seems to be
addicted to difficult relationships or someone you know might be
addicted to bad news. This addiction is based on something feeling
right and wanting to feel it again and again. Often, there is a the
whole progression of addiction involved in anxiety. The hunt, the work
up, the fulfillment, the high, the come down the craving for the next
fix.
16. Recognize people do
things that annoy you not to annoy you. There is that
person. You know who it is, you have one just like them in your life.
They get on nerves simply by sharing the same air on the same planet
you live on. There are moments to remember that they do things that are
annoying, but they don’t do it to you only or especially to you.
It is
who they are. Do not let that be taken personally. In fact, you might
be that person to someone else.
17. Don’t take yourself
too
seriously. How much of life is truly eternal? Not much of
it. Some of
it is like way you behaved- whether it was with integrity or anger. But
for the most part.. lets get real down and dirty honest here, most of
life is not of lasting consequence. Most of every day is not
significant in the long term. Why then, take it so seriously? Taking
most things as if they are of grave issue is simply one way to a
miserable life and an early grave. Ask yourself, when you find yourself
worked up, "In two years
will this make any difference?" This tip for
reducing stress is one of the most effective tips for controlling
stress throughout a lifetime.
18. Look at the
situation like
it’s the most ridiculous thing. Keep in mind that most of
life simply
is laugh worthy, because it isn’t going to make a difference whether
you eat Chinese out or ham and beans at home. So, when you get into a
situation big or small try to get your mind around this concept. What
you are
going through is the most ridiculous thing that ever happened. I mean
who really gets a good education, buys some over priced house, loses
their job, loses their family, loses their pension, and has to start
over! Hahaha poor sap. Wait! That's me. A sigh and a shake of the head
coupled with a laugh at how crazy ridiculous the situation is, should
be enough to dissipate enough stress so that you can focus on the
solution.
19. Change your
perception. Change your reality.
True or False: Pain. No one likes pain. Pain hurts. Pain is bad.You
might want to re-think your answer after watching a professional boxer.
They see pain as a means, both in training and in the ring, to success,
glory, pleasure, significance. They choose pain over and over again.
Life
is all in how you see it. When you face an obstacle, I can almost bet
you meet it with many negative feelings and thoughts (some of us
experience this more than others). If
instead, you see an obstacle with
the sight of defeating it, building
character, telling stories
about how you killed the monster, feeling accomplished and proud- how
you deal with stress will change.
20. Remove the
emotional charge from situations and memories. This is on
of the most difficult tips for reducing stress to master, but if you
can it will make a recognizable difference in your life! Stepping
outside of a
situation or memory can be almost as difficult as having those negative
experiences. This may take time, but with a concerted effort, when you
remove the emotional charge from your past and present you will be
free, you will be free to stop acting from fear, pain, frustration and
all that impedes you. You will be free to be in a moment, you will be
free to enjoy life without shackles. Use this tip in how you deal with
stress and life will bloom.
21. Don’t wait for your
goals to be
met to do what is important. When you say, "When I have
more time. I
will __________." or "When we have enough money _______." the truth of
this reducing stress tip, is that when it is important you will do it
or get it done, no matter what the circumstance is. The negative
consequences multiply when you neglect what is important. When those
essential and important things are fed and maintained the rest of the
stress in you life takes a back seat.
22. Have a cup
of
tea. This tip for reducing stress is two fold. The first
part is what is in your tea. There are many types of teas easily
accessible as
well as specialty teas which include herbal supplements to help sooth
panic or stressed feelings. Many are extremely effective and do what
they say they will. The second perk of having a cup of tea is the break
you get as you prepare it. Never underestimate the value of a few
minutes distracted from you problem. Plus you get to enjoy sipping on a
wonderful, warm, soothing libation.
23. Recognize
your
signs of stress. Stress can creep in, in so many
unexpected ways. It
can take the form of stiff muscles or frazzled thinking. It can make
you more sensitive, snappy or more likely to takes risk so you can self
medicate with an endorphin rush. Often we recognize these things with
out recognizing the stress behind it. If you recognize your signs of
stress and use them as an early detection system you can take care of
that stressor before it becomes an outrageous mess.
24. Recognize
the nearness of death. If you had two weeks to live, or if
you had one day left, how would you spend your remaining time? Would
those things that stress you out make their way into your
plans. Would you continue to let things get under your skin. I doubt
it. When you realize that in all honesty you beat the statistics of
death every day, that death is a wrong step, slippery floor, or 5
minute drive away, the way you allow stress into your life and how you
react to it drastically differs. When you keep in mind, tomorrow may be
your last day, the way you are controlling stress and what stress you
allow into your life gains a new perspective.
25. When you are
annoyed, remember that you are annoying someone else.
26. Play a prank on someone.
27. Make up a parody song/script/poem.
28. Listen to something calming.
29. Make it
someone else’s problem. You might think this is one of the
meanest tips for reducing stress, but hear me out. Its all in how you
read it. When I say, "Make it someone elses problem!" what I am
encouraging is not the trickle down effect that misery seems to induce
on its victims. Rather, I am encouraging you to, in your mind, act like
it is your best friend telling you their problems. Perhaps it is your
child, or your colleague telling you their problem. The
solution for someone elses problem, often, is so much easier to see.
Why is this? Because when its someone elses problem we are free of the
emotional charge. This is tip for reducing stress is simple and
incredibly effective at helping you gain objectivity when controlling
stress.
30. Role play.
Sometimes our stress come from having to approach things which we react
to in a fearful manner. Interviews, talking with family members,
crowds, math are all very common situations that cause us to allow fear
to control our actions. A simple way to deal with these kinds of
stresses is to role play. You can role play in the mirror or with a
supportive person. This works on more than one level. One you are
preparing your mind to deal with uncomfortable situation by rehearsing
words and good feelings. Another level this works on is by
desensitizing you to the particular situation. When we encounter new or
novel things they have a great impact, where as every day things have
little or no emotional impact. Make those stressful situations less
stressful by making them more routine.
As I develop this site further, I will be adding more to this list of
tips for
